Situation
How do I keep my creator content separate from my camera roll?

Shoot and store creator content outside your main camera roll. There it syncs to every device on your account, shows up in memories and widgets, and carries the location where you shot it. Turn off location for the camera, strip details before you upload, and keep the files in a place with its own code. Keep a backup, because the content is also your income.
You make content for a subscription site, a brand or your own channel. You shoot most of it on the same phone you use for everything else. The camera roll now mixes paid sets with family dinners. A memory might put a work photo in a slideshow at your parents’ house. A file you upload might carry the address where you shot it. Your content is also your income, so losing it hurts as much as a leak. This page shows how to keep creator content apart from your personal life on iPhone and Android. We checked each step against Apple’s and Google’s own pages on 2026-10-08.
Where camera roll content ends up
A photo in your main camera roll does not stay on one screen.
- Every device on your account. With iCloud Photos on, Apple says you “can see the photos and videos you took on iPhone on any device.” If your family shares an Apple Account or an iPad, so does your content.
- Memories, featured photos and widgets. Photos builds slideshows and widget picks from your whole library by itself. Our pages on memories and the photo widget show how to limit them.
- Screen shares and borrowed phones. Opening Photos on a call shows the whole grid. See screen sharing on a call.
- Other apps. Apps with full photo access can read your library. On iPhone, Apple’s developer documentation shows that such an app can include hidden photos if it asks. See apps that can see your photos.
Take your location out of the files
Apple explains that when Location Services is on for the Camera app, it embeds “location coordinates” in each photo and video. “When photos and videos that include location metadata are shared, the people you share them with may be able to access the location metadata.”
On iPhone:
- Stop new location tags. Go to Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, Camera, then tap Never.
- Clear one photo. In Photos, open the photo, tap the info button, tap Adjust Info, tap Adjust Location, then tap No Location.
- Share without it. Select the photos, tap the share button, tap Options, then turn off Location. Apple shows Location Not Included above the Options button.
Files are only half of it. A street sign through a window, a mirror, a piece of mail or a tattoo can identify you too. Check the background of every set before you post it.
The built-in hiding places, and their limits
Hidden album on iPhone. Hidden photos leave the Library, other albums and the Photos widget. They still open with your phone passcode and sync with iCloud Photos. An app with full photo access can also read them if it asks. Our Hidden album guide covers the details.
Locked Folder on Android. Google says items there “won’t appear in the Photos grid, memories, search or albums” and are not available to other apps. But it opens with your screen lock, and items you do not back up “will only be stored on that device.” On Pixel 4 and later, the camera can save straight into Locked Folder. See our Locked Folder guide.
Both keep content out of sight. Neither gives it a code of its own, and for income you need a backup you trust.
Keep the business side safe
- Use your own accounts. Do not share the Apple Account or Google Account that holds your content with family.
- Keep two copies. One on the phone, one backup off it. A lost phone should not cost you a month of sets.
- Know where originals sit. After you move files, delete the camera roll copies. Then empty Recently Deleted, or they stay there for 30 days.

Where York Vault fits
York Vault keeps creator content out of your photo library, on iPhone and Android. It has its own code and its own backup.

- Shoot straight into it. The York Vault camera records photos and video up to 4K at 60 frames per second. Nothing goes to Photos. Location is off by default. On Plus and Pro, it can blur faces as you shoot.
- Keep sets apart. Give one album its own code. Or use up to 8 separate libraries on Plus and Pro, each with its own key.
- Clean files for upload. When you share or export, York Vault removes location, camera details and dates by default. See sharing files safely. The photo editor blurs faces and text in a new copy.
- Back up every item. York Vault backs up each item, encrypted, to your own iCloud or Google Drive, for free. Video fills storage fast, so watch your space.

Questions people ask
Can people find my location from my photos?
They can if the file still has it. Apple says the Camera app embeds location coordinates in each photo when it has access to Location Services. People you share with may be able to see where it was taken. Turn off location for the camera, and turn off Location in the share options before you send or upload.
Will my creator photos sync to my family's iPad?
If you use iCloud Photos and share an Apple Account, yes. Apple says iCloud Photos shows the photos you take on any device signed in to the same account. Use your own Apple Account, or keep creator content out of Photos, so nothing reaches a shared device.
Is the Hidden album enough for creator content?
It keeps photos off your Library, other albums and the Photos widget. But it opens with your phone passcode, it syncs with iCloud Photos, and an app with full photo access can still read hidden photos. For content that pays your bills, use a place with its own code and its own backup.
What if my content is leaked or shared without consent?
Save proof first: the link, the account and screenshots with dates. Report the post to the platform, and contact a help line. In the US, the CCRI Crisis Helpline is 844-878-2274. In the UK, the Revenge Porn Helpline is 0345 6000 459. Both support adults facing image abuse.
Does York Vault remove location when I export for upload?
Yes, by default. When you share or export, York Vault removes GPS location, camera serial number, device model, dates and other details, with a preview of what goes. A Keep details switch leaves them in for one share. The original in your library keeps everything, inside the encryption.
