Feature
Can you edit, blur and share a photo from a vault without its location?

In York Vault, yes. You crop, rotate, adjust light and color, add filters and mark up a photo inside your library. York Vault keeps the original, so you can revert. A blur tool hides faces and text in a new copy. When you share or export, York Vault removes the location and camera details by default. All of this is free.
Why edit inside the vault?
If you edit a private photo in another app, you have to send it out of the vault first. That app may save its own copy, or put the result in your camera roll. Then you have to find it and delete it, and it sits in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
York Vault keeps the whole job inside your library. The photo stays encrypted, the edit stays in York Vault, and nothing lands in Apple Photos or Google Photos. This works on iPhone, iPad and Android, on the Free plan.
The photo editor
- Crop, rotate and straighten.
- Light and color. Change the light and the color of a photo.
- Filters.
- Markup. Draw or write on a photo. On iPad, use Apple Pencil.
York Vault saves each edit as a new version and keeps the original. You can revert to the original at any time. The reverted file matches the original exactly. The editor uses no outside editing kit, so no third party code sees your photos.

Trim a video
Cut the start or the end of a video, or mute its sound. York Vault saves the result as a new version and keeps the original. For the video player itself, see Live Photos and video.
Blur faces and text before you share
Sometimes you need to send a photo, but not all of it. For example, a screenshot with a name in it. Or a group photo where one person said no to sharing.

- Open the photo and pick the blur tool.
- York Vault finds the faces on the phone and marks them.
- Draw a box over any text you want to hide.
- Pick blur or a solid black box.
- Save. York Vault makes a new copy and leaves the original as it was.
Use a solid black box for text you must hide fully. In the redacted area, the copy has no readable text.
Location and camera details when you share
A photo file carries more than the picture. It can hold the place where you took it, the date, the phone model and a camera serial number. When you share or export a photo from York Vault, it removes these details by default:
| Detail | On share and export |
|---|---|
| Location (GPS) | Removed |
| Camera serial number | Removed |
| Device model | Removed |
| Dates | Removed |
| Other camera details | Removed |
Before the copy leaves, a preview shows what York Vault removes. If you want to keep the details for one share, turn on Keep details. Your original in York Vault keeps every detail, inside its encryption, so you lose nothing. The private camera can also save new photos with no location at all.

How the phone’s own photo apps compare
Apple Photos. The Apple guide says to tap Share, then Options, then turn off Location. Then “Location Not Included” shows above the Options button. You choose this for each share, and it covers the location only. Apple Photos also has Revert to Original for edits.
Google Photos. The Google help page says: “If a location was automatically added by your camera, you can’t update or remove the location in Google Photos.” So on Android, the camera location stays in the file. York Vault removes it on share and export.
How other vault apps do it
| App | Editing and sharing | Where we read it |
|---|---|---|
| Private Photo Vault | Photo editor from an outside kit. “Video Editing is a Premium Feature”. “Blur Faces” only in its camera. | App text |
| Keepsafe | Crop, filter and rotate on the free plan. | App text |
| Vaultaire | No removal of location on share. Its face blur tool is on its website, not in the app. | App package and website |
We read the app text in each App Store package in September 2026. We checked the listings on 2026-10-02.

Questions people ask
How to hide photo location on iPhone?

How to hide photo metadata on iPhone?
Apple Photos lets you turn off the location when you share. York Vault goes further on share and export. It removes the location, the camera serial number, the device model, dates and other camera details by default. A preview shows what it removes before the copy leaves.
Does editing a photo change the original?
No. York Vault saves each edit as a new version and keeps the original. You can revert at any time, and the reverted file matches the original exactly. A trimmed video works the same way.
Can I blur a face before I send a photo?
