Add a photo, choose the document, and the tool places your face on head guides taken from the government's own rules. Adjust the crop, then save a digital photo or a 4 x 6 in print sheet. The photo is not uploaded. The work happens in this browser.

Drag to move. Pinch, or hold Ctrl and scroll, to zoom.
Part of the frame has no photo, so it saves as white. Zoom in or move the photo.
How it works
- Choose the document. Each preset has the photo size and the head size from the government's page. The red bands show where the top of the head and the chin must be. Where a country gives an eye height, a third band shows it.
- Place. Face detection finds your eyes and chin. The tool zooms so your head fits the rule, puts your chin on the chin line and turns the photo so your eyes are level. You can move, zoom and turn it yourself.
- Check. Look at the top of your head and your chin against the bands. Some countries measure to the top of the hair, others to the top of the head without hair. The band label says which.
- Save. Download photo saves one JPEG at the size the document needs, with the print size written into the file. The 4 x 6 in sheet holds as many copies as fit, with grey cut lines, at 300 dpi. Neither file has metadata.

Checked Oct 3, 2026. The EU has no single passport photo rule. Germany and France ask for 32 to 36 mm, but the Netherlands asks for 26 to 30 mm, so check your own country's page. The US Department of State measures to the top of the head, not the hair.
Questions people ask
What size is a passport photo?
It depends on the country. A US passport photo is 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm). The UK, Germany, France, Australia, India, Japan and South Korea use 35 x 45 mm. Canada uses 50 x 70 mm, and a China visa photo is 33 x 48 mm. The table on this page lists each size with its head size rule and the government page.
How big should the head be in a passport photo?
Each country sets a range for the distance from the chin to the top of the head. The US asks for 25 to 35 mm (1 to 1 3/8 in). The UK asks for 29 to 34 mm. Germany, France, Australia, Japan and South Korea ask for 32 to 36 mm. Some countries measure to the top of the hair, and some to the top of the head without hair.
Can I print a passport photo at home?
Yes, if the country accepts printed photos. Download the 4 x 6 in sheet, then print it on 4 x 6 in (10 x 15 cm) photo paper at 100% size, with no scaling and no borders. Cut along the grey lines. Many stores also print a 4 x 6 in photo from a file.
Does this tool upload my photo?
No. The crop, the guides and the saved files are all made in your browser. The face detection files load from this site once and run on your device. No part of the photo goes to our server or to anyone else.
Does this tool change the background?
No. It does not remove or change the background. Take the photo in front of a plain wall in the color your document asks for, in even light, with no shadows on your face or behind you.
