Convert HEIC to JPG
Add HEIC photos from an iPhone or iPad, and the tool saves each one as a JPEG that opens everywhere. It turns each photo the right way up, keeps the colors, and removes the location. Convert one photo or a hundred, then download them one by one or in a zip. Nothing is uploaded.
Runs on this device. Your photos are not uploaded.

How it works
- Open. Safari opens HEIC by itself. Chrome, Edge and Firefox cannot, so the page loads libheif, an open source HEIC decoder, from yorkvault.com. It runs in a background worker in your browser.
- Turn upright. An iPhone often stores a photo sideways, with a note that says how to turn it. The tool applies that note, so the JPEG shows the right way up in every app.
- Keep the colors. iPhone photos use the Display P3 color range, which holds more reds and greens than standard sRGB. Where the browser supports it, the JPEG keeps Display P3 and its color profile.
- Save. The browser writes a new JPEG at the quality you set. The JPEG has no location, camera or lens data. With Keep the date taken on, the tool adds back one field: the date and time the photo was taken.
HEIC or JPG: which should you keep?
Keep the HEIC files as your originals if your devices open them. They are smaller, and they hold the Live Photo and depth data. Convert a copy to JPEG when you send photos to Windows, to a website form, or to someone whose app cannot open HEIC. To keep EXIF data out of photos you share in other formats, use the location and metadata remover.
Questions people ask
Does this tool upload my photos?
No. Your browser opens each photo and writes the JPEG on your device. No photo, file name or location goes to our server or to anyone else. In Chrome, Edge and Firefox, the HEIC decoder (2 MB) loads from yorkvault.com the first time. After that, you can turn off Wi-Fi and the tool still works.
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the photo format that iPhone and iPad use by default since iOS 11. It stores the picture with HEVC compression in a HEIF container, so a photo takes less space than a JPEG of the same quality. Windows, many websites and older apps cannot open it.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lower the quality?
A little. JPEG compresses the picture again. At the default quality of 92%, you cannot see the change at normal size, and the JPEG is often 1.5 to 2 times the size of the HEIC. Choose PNG for a copy with no new loss, but the file is much larger.
Does the JPEG keep the location and date of the photo?
The JPEG never keeps the location, the camera model, the lens or serial numbers. With Keep the date taken on, it keeps one thing: the date and time the photo was taken, so it sorts by date in Photos, Google Photos or Windows. Turn it off for a JPEG with no metadata at all.
How do I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?
Open Settings, tap Camera, tap Formats, then tap Most Compatible. New photos and videos then use JPEG and H.264. Photos you already took stay HEIC. When you send a HEIC photo by AirDrop, Messages or Mail to a device that cannot open it, the iPhone can send a JPEG instead.
How do I open HEIC files on Windows?
Windows needs 2 add-ons from the Microsoft Store: HEIF Image Extensions, and HEVC Video Extensions. Microsoft says the HEVC package must be installed to view .heic files. Without them, convert the photos to JPEG on this page. It works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox on Windows.
